At this point, pure front-end development is essentially dead.

Because of the impact of AI, writing code no longer requires nearly as much time as it once did. Whether you use Claude Code or Codex, as long as you provide clear and precise instructions, they can complete in minutes what previously took one or two days.

AI can even read requirements and design mockups automatically, then handle the entire workflow—from development to self-testing—with minimal human intervention.

However, in a broader sense, front-end developers now have even greater opportunities.

Once again, this is because of AI. In the past, front-end developers had far too much to learn. At the framework level, new tools such as Vue and React emerged constantly, with major version changes almost every year. At the device level, mobile apps, desktop applications, large-screen displays, and other platforms all required different technology stacks.

With the help of AI, however, these technical differences can now largely be abstracted away.

Previously, it was also extremely difficult for front-end developers to learn back-end technologies—even though the back end seemed to be stuck on Java 8 forever. Today, AI has significantly lowered that learning barrier as well.

If front-end developers want to continue growing in this industry, they need to move beyond the traditional developer mindset and evolve into AI product builders—becoming decision-makers rather than mere executors.

That path still appears to offer enormous potential.
